How does the application process work?
The application period is from 05.05.2021 to 11.07.2021. You can apply
here. After the application period, we will invite you for a personal interview.
What does working with corona restrictions look like?
Due to the current situation, we can't estimate exactly how much time we'll need next season. So far, KA-RaceIng has always been a full-time project, even though we were in home office for most of this season. We always work from home office when work permits. Manufacturing and testing, however, is done on site.
What does the time commitment look like?
KA-RaceIng is a full-time project. Of course, the time commitment varies between different seasons and their vehicles goals, als well as between the different tasks and components that exist. In principle, however, we do not rule out a half-day work model - therefore we are happy to clarify for each individual case whether participation with clearly limited time makes sense, as we naturally strive to enable as many as possible to join us.
Do I need specialized or previous knowledge to be able to participate?
To start with us, you don't need any special previous knowledge. We will find a suitable component or task for each motivated team member.
How can I balance participating in KA-RaceIng with my studies?
Since KA-RaceIng is a full-time project, you will definitely not have as much time as before for your studies. A normal semester with listening to lectures, doing internships and writing exams is not feasible next to our project. However, 1 - 2 exams per semester can still be arranged.
And how is it with part-time jobs?
Some of us have a part-time job in addition to their participation. With good organization and agreement in advance, this is also possible.
What can I do? What subteams and components are there?
Here you can find more information about our subteams and components.
Can I write my final thesis at KA-RaceIng?
If you would like to write a thesis with us as part of the team, you will usually spend an entire season, two semesters, as a full team member and therefore also participate in the overall success of the team. We will then agree on the topic together with you.
Do I get paid?
Since we are a university group and a non-profit association, the commitment is completely voluntary and cannot be paid. In return, our members get the opportunity to acquire practical knowledge, apply theory from their studies, establish contact with sponsors and experience teamwork on a whole new level. Quote from a team member: „KA-RaceIng is not an addition to the study, but the study is one to KA-RaceIng“.
Do I have to pay for something?
Participation in the team is free of charge. Food, drinks, teamwear and teambuilding cannot be covered by the club due to our club structure.
How does subteam and component assignment work?
Before the season starts, we try to assign all members to subteams according to preferences and planned staffing. With the start of the new season, the first few days are used to give everyone an overview of the different components in the subteam, through presentations, our own research on our internal wiki, and conversations with predecessors/alumni. After everyone has thought about it and discussed it with the subteam leaders, we try to assign the components satisfactorily. If you have a specific component in mind from the start or would like to contribute a development idea, you can include this directly in your application so that we know directly.
Can I participate at the beginning of my studies?
We do not recommend applying to us until you have completed your first few semesters and have passed all orientation exams.
Can I join for one semester?
Basically, we all spend a full season (two semesters) as a team on building and testing the cars after the concept and design phase. The events in the summer are then the culmination of the season.
How does a season run in general?
The season begins in september with a concept and design phase. With the beginning of the new year, we start the production phase to present our finished vehicles at the rollout in early May. Afterwards, we put the vehicles into operation and prepare for the competitions. In the summer, the season is then concluded at several international events.
